Beyond Blue: How to Wear Printed Denim

Go beyond blue this season with bold, printed denim. We took one of our favorite pairs from Joe’s Jeans and styled it four different ways. Rest assured, these floral-print pants are no one-wear wonder.

  1. Casual Friday: Make casual Friday “Take Your Style to Work Day.” Here we offset the pant’s colorful print with a crisp white blouse. A collection of classic accessories, a Michael Kors watch and handbag and Antonio Melani sandal, perfect the polished look.
  2. Evening Out: Cut the floral’s sweetness with edgy zip-front sandals, shoulder-dusting earrings and a studded clutch. The bright pink top by BCBGMAXAZRIA complements the fun print but keeps the look sophisticated with a single sleeve.
  3. Retro Weekend: Play up the jean’s feminine print with retro-inspired styling. Cat-eye sunglasses and loafers channel 1950s glamour. Maintain your modernity by adding stacked bangles and a Cremieux striped top.
  4. Summer Festival: Easy does it when you’re spending your day in the sun. Choose a breezy top and strappy sandal for a look that’s cool and comfy. A bright Cole Haan cross-body bag keeps your cell phone and other essentials stylishly secure while a golden cuff adds a touch of shine.

Maxi Matchmaker: Find Your Perfect Maxi Dress

Think maxi dresses aren’t your style? We did a little maxi matchmaking to prove otherwise. No longer reserved for the free spirit (though she still looks great in it), this season’s maxi is available in a silhouette to suit every personality.

  1. The Individualist: This neon knockout from C&C California refuses to blend into the background. A turned-up take on colorblock, its vibrant shades shape your figure. We like the dress best with neutral wedges and devil-may-care hair.
  2. The  Sophisticate: The T Tahari Trisha maxi dress combines floral print with tailored lines for a silhouette that’s pretty and polished. A ribbon belt cinches the style with feminine flourish. Layer the look with a crisp white blazer.
  3. The  Romantic: An elegant re-imagining of the maxi, this Cremieux design charms with lustrous fabric and a contoured fit. Colorful stripes across the skirt keep the look lighthearted. Couple with a glossy lip.
  4. The World Traveler: Go global with this MM Couture by Miss Me maxi. The breezy, sweeping silhouette ensures you’ll turn heads no matter where your travels take you. We suggest styling with chunky jewelry and comfy flat sandals.

Feet First: Spring 2012 Shoe Trends

Spring style starts with shoes. Strappy sandals, flats, wedges, pumps, espadrilles — the abundance of choices is thrilling and overwhelming. To make your search simpler, we did the trend spotting for you. Check out our top Spring 2012 trends.

Prim & Punchy

Why We Love It: Ladylike styles reign supreme every spring. But this season, our favorite designers took it one step further. Bows, rosettes and floral print adorn everything from pointed-toe pumps to gladiator sandals.

How to Wear It: Follow the 3 P’s: prim, proper and pink. Spring’s power color loves a feminine flourish at the feet. These demure designs also look smart set against sharp blouses and cropped pants.

What to Wear: 1. Antonio Melani Britt Pumps 2. Betsey Johnson Haylie Sandals 3. GB Gianni Bini Eye-Candy Sandals

’20s Glamour

Why We Love It: It’s no secret that fashion loves a good throwback. Spring 2012 takes us to the 1920s — but there’s a twist. Shine, studs and color update the era’s signature T-strap shoes.

How to Wear It: Pleated skirts and beaded tops touch on ’20s heritage without being costume-y.  For a thoroughly modern look, turn to animal prints and minimalist silhouettes.

What to Wear: 1. Gianni Bini Kelli T-Strap Platform Sandals 2. Antonio Melani Reina Sandals 3. Gianni Bini Cheryl T-Strap Platform Sandals

Global Influence

Why We Love It: Rich textures, tribal prints, vibrant colors, dense beading — this trend is a visual and tactile treat.

How to Wear It: The beauty of the global look is this: it feels at home wherever you go. Wear raffia wedges with your favorite work looks and enliven weekend dresses with tribal-print flats.

What to Wear: 1. Sbicca Tristan Platform Wedge Sandals 2. Arturo Chiang Lily Sandals 3. Lucky Brand Emmie Flats

Bright Idea: How to Wear Bold Spring Colors

Meet spring’s best and brightest hues: orange, yellow, cobalt and pink. Read on to learn why we love them and how to wear them.

Intense Orange

Why We Love It: Citrusy and refreshing, orange embodies the spirit of spring. Pantone® even named Tangerine Tango the official color of 2012.
How to Wear It: Don’t be intimidated — this warm shade is flattering against most skin tones. For colorblock looks, orange works well with blue, purple, pink and red. Want just a taste? Sweeten your style with an orange lip or nail color.
What to Wear: 1. Gianni Bini Johnson Jacket 2. BCBGeneration Print Dress 3. Gianni Bini Jessica Dress 4. butter LONDON Nail Lacquer

Not-So Mellow Yellow

Why We Love It: Once restricted to pastel offerings, yellow is back and brighter than ever. Our favorite shades run a sun-kissed spectrum, from soft to shocking and everything in between.
How to Wear It: We love yellow with natural colors and textures, like nude, white and raffia. Style a yellow blouse or blazer with crisp white pants for an office look that’s cheerfully chic.
What to Wear: 1. Calvin Klein Chiffon Dress 2. BB Dakota Chiffon Blouse 3. Tahari by ASL Sleeveless Dress 4. Gianni Bini Clarice Dress

Cool Cobalt

Why We Love It: Rich and saturated, cobalt will quench even the strongest color cravings. An added perk? Unlike many blues, it pairs well with denim.
How to Wear It: Cobalt coupled with green is our current obsession — but we love this crisp shade with just about everything. Turn to shoes and jewelry for a quick fix that you can add to any look.
What to Wear: 1. Gianni Bini Suella Dress 2. Buffalo Ophelia Jacket 3. Buffalo Claribel Top 4. Anna & Ava Zebra Ring & Jessica Simpson Marcie Wedge

Powerful Pink

Why We Love It: It’s the new power color. A feistier take on past pinks,  this season’s shade is strong and confident.
How to Wear It: Even as an accent, pink packs a punch. But that doesn’t mean it won’t play well with your favorite colors. Orange, yellow, green and red all get along famously with pink. Crushing but not head over heels? Pick up a pink lipstick or blush — you’ll adore the rosy glow it gives your complexion.
What to Wear: 1. Matty M Colorblock Dress 2. Calvin Klein Denim Leggings 3. MICHAEL Michael Kors Beaded Top 4. MAC Lipstick in Lustering

Trend Report: It’s All About the Waist

Fashion loves a focal point. And this season, all eyes are on the waist. Whether it’s contoured, cinched or belted, the statement waist is a figure-friendly trend we can’t get enough of.

  1. Playful Peplums: A peplum is a short (often ruffled or pleated) overskirt that’s attached at the waist of dresses, skirts, tops and jackets. The flared shape highlights your waist and complements the curve of your hips, creating an hourglass silhouette. This Antonio Melani skirt flaunts asymmetric lines for a fresh spin on the flattering favorite.
  2. Cinched Styles: As close to universally flattering as it gets, cinched styles define your waist with elastic, smocking or seaming. The added perk? The design often creates a soft, forgiving fit across your hips, as seen on this BCBGeneration dress.
  3. Wide Belts: Make a statement with this waist-whittling accessory. Cinch flowy styles or update old favorites with this Tre Vero stretch belt. For stress-free styling, try this Chelsea & Violet dress — it comes pre-accessorized with the perfect belt.

How will you incorporate this Spring 2012 trend?
