Blazin’ Hot Trend: Summer Blazers

Originally, the blazer was only seen within the confines of the corporate office, and for the working girl, it meant stuffy shoulder pads and unflattering dress slacks. But now, like so many other key pieces—pants, vests and even fedoras—the blazer has become a stylish staple.

But an even hotter trend this season? The summer blazer. It’s a lighter, less constructed version of the classic. They come in a variety of colors, prints and cuts, which makes them versatile and easy to pair with almost anything!

There’s something about a blazer that can take an outfit from average to outstanding. And nothing makes a look more eye-catching than adding some color to it. Match a bold blazer with a simple striped bodycon dress. Or, sport a blazer with animal print for some added spice.

Many of these summer blazers are not designed to close or even button, helping to create a great look without the restricted feeling of your typical blazer. They look perfect with a flowy tank and cuffed shorts. To find the right blazer to complete this look, make sure that its hemline hits close to your hip bones.

Another bonus: they easily transition from summer to fall. Because summer blazers are typically made of cotton and other lighter-weight materials, it’s easy to wear them in the warm summer months over dresses, shorts and skirts, and over heavier clothes as the weather gets cooler.

Trend to Watch: Tiers

One of the easiest trends to rock this season? Tiers! Whether it’s lace, knit, chiffon or mixed media, tiered clothing is showing up everywhere in women’s fashion.

Love lace and feminine frills? Then this lace tiered dress from M.S.S.P. in flame or ecru is perfect for you. For a sleek, sultry look, try this Milo tiered dress from Gianni Bini in punchy poppy.

The Rainer dress from BCBGMAXAZRIA couples your love for tiers with this season’s asymmetric silhouettes. If you prefer a maxi dress, try this I.N. Studio ruffle dress.

We’ve even got you covered for a special occasion with dresses in flattering shutter pleats. Two of our favorites are the lace gown from Adrianna Papell and the tiered halter dress from Evan Picone.

To extend the tiered trend to separates, try a simple tiered skirt or top. We especially love this shutter-pleat skirt from Adrianna Papell  or this Chelsea & Violet tiered ruffle top.

Word of the Week: Popover

Popover [n.] \ˈpäp-ˌō-vər\ – A cropped top worn over a longer tank or tee for a layered look.

No, we’re not talking about those delicious pastries that can be filled with any number of tasty ingredients. We’re talking about the cute top for the trend-setting girl.

So why is it called a popover? Because once she puts on her tee, she “pops” the cropped top over it to complete her stylish layered look.

These tops are great with denimshorts and skirts  and come in as many colors and designs as the yummy pastry has fillings.
