Style It Now & Later: Booties

There’s something sweet about shoes you can wear year-round. The crème de la crème? Booties. Maximize your wardrobe with this season-spanning style. We’ve picked our favorite silhouettes, so you can dig in now.

Now: Don’t feel like you have to carry the vintage Americana theme through your entire look. Just belt your favorite sundress and slip on your cowgirl kicks.

Later: Warm up this classic style with skinny jeans and a white tee. Grab your favorite scarf for a dash of color —  we’re loving jewel tones for fall.

Now: Offset pretty prints and neons with moto-inspired booties. Often studded, these shimmering silhouettes reflect the summer sun.

Later: Take the edgy style into cooler weather with tights and a mod shift. Play up the rebellious vibe with a leather jacket or strike a luxurious balance with a fur-trimmed cardi.

Now: Keep masculine styles ladylike with lace dresses or flowy maxi skirts.

Later: Get cozy with tights and ponte knit pants. These stretchy pieces won’t bunch under your favorite menswear booties.

Sam Edelman: Dillard’s Exclusive Interview

Q: Who is the typical Sam Edelman woman?
A:
She is trend-savvy and loves to go out with her friends. Her drink of choice is a vodka soda.

Q: Where do you draw most of your inspiration for your designs?
A:
All over the world; from the runways of Europe to the history books of fashion, from global kitchens to the movies, from new books to the innovation of fashion and design.

Q:  Who are your major influences?
A:
Karl Lagerfeld, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo and Jackie Kennedy.

Q: What do you feel you bring to the industry?
A:
I bring a certain element of style and panache. Women love my shoes because I know what they need in their wardrobe and I focus on style and comfort while always adding a bit of whimsy to my designs.

Q: What’s the ultimate message you want to get across through your shoes?
A:
I want women to know they can have attainable luxury without putting a hole in their bank account.

Q: Did you attend school for design or are you self-taught?
A:
My family was in the leather and shoe business, so growing up I was constantly exposed to design and fashion. I studied theatre, language and philosophy. I’ve also studied women since the age of 13!

Q: What are some key trends we will see from your line next season?
A:
For fall, cowboy is a huge trend.  We love Western and are influenced by a modern take on Hopalong Cassidy. There is nothing sexier than a woman in tight jeans, a white tee and a pair of vintage-looking cowboy boots. I was also inspired by a more refined take on rock ‘n’ roll. Think of a glamorous take on Steve McQueen’s classic motorcycle style.

Q: Tell us about a shoe you will never forget.
A:
Our shoe called the Angelina. It was a moccasin on a wedge. It was our first big shoe when we launched Sam Edelman. We were the first to break all the rules.

Q: Which shoe should no woman be without?
A:
Every woman should have 3 great pairs of ballet flats.  Our Felicia is perfect for just that with new colors every season. And a library of sandals for the summer —  we love the Gigi.
