Dillard’s Exclusive Interview: Cari Coffman, Director of Corporate Registry for Dillard’s

Dillards_Bridal_Registry

Q: What are some of the hottest registry items for this year?
A: Single-serve coffee makers like Nespresso and the new Starbucks Verismo machine are hot. Healthy living seems to be a trend right now, too. Juicers, blenders and steamers are showing up in greater numbers on registries. Bright, fun bedding like Trina Turk has captured our couple’s attention as well. We are seeing more bedding collections on registries this year.

Q: What are the most fun things you’ve seen on the registry?
A: The Margaritaville Mixed Drink Maker is so much fun and makes a great gift. I love the new Rogaska Luxe collection, especially the chess candlestick collection. It puts a fun twist on classic items.

Q: What are some of the most popular items you sell?
A: Fiesta dinnerware is the favorite dinnerware choice of our brides. They love to mix all the colors, and there are tons of great accessories. Luggage is always a popular choice. Wally Bags are loved by both brides and grooms; they are so functional. The famous garment bag comes in a 52″ dress length. And, the clean lines of Lenox Tuscany stemware make it really popular right now.

Q: What are 5 registry essentials that every couple needs?

  1. A set of quality cookware that will last for many years.
  2. High-quality casual dinnerware. Cheap dinnerware will chip, crack and discolor over time. Invest in quality everyday dinnerware.
  3. Dillard’s Luxury Hotel 700-thread-count sateen sheets. They’re amazing.
  4. A Kitchen Aid stand mixer. You won’t believe how many uses there are for this machine.
  5. Plush bath towels are a definite must-have and don’t skimp on the quantity requested.

Q: How should couples choose what to put on their registry?
A: They should start by thinking about their lifestyle. For example, if they like to entertain, then they will want to make sure they have plenty of serveware on the registry. They should think about their lives 5 and 10 years from now as well. Do they envision hosting the holidays with their families? Maybe they need 18 place settings instead of 12. We provide a checklist to guide our couples as they go through the home store to make sure they don’t leave important items off the registry.

Q: There are tons of registry options on the web and at brick-and-mortar department stores. What sets Dillard’s registry apart from competitors?
A: One of the best kept secrets around is our completion program. After the wedding, we offer 20% off most remaining items on the registry. We offer the option of personal registries, which are private registries only available by request in store. These are perfect for lingerie and cosmetics; anything the couple does not want all guests to view. Plus, our brides can register for anything in the store. We also have exclusive registry incentive gifts from our vendors.

Q: How far in advance should the bride/groom to-be register?
A: We recommend registering 6 months before the wedding, but at least 3 weeks before the first shower. Couples need to remember to update their registry after each shower and 2-3 weeks before the wedding to make sure there are enough items at varying price points available for purchase at all times.

Q: What about those folks looking for last-minute wedding gifts? What items do you recommend?
A: We always recommend purchasing a gift off the couple’s registry. If you can’t find an item on the couple’s registry to purchase, try and add on to an existing item. For example, if the couple’s Keurig coffee maker has already been purchased, how about some accessories like a milk frother and coffee caddy?

Q: What are some wedding gift ideas for those who are on a budget?
A: Nambe offers some beautiful pieces, which are a great value. The Yaro Salad bowl and the Mikko Bar tray are fantastic pieces. For the wine lover, there’s the Cuisinart’s Private Reserve 8-Bottle Wine Cellar. Anything from the Marquis by Waterford Vintage Mixology collection is a great value.

Americana Style for Memorial Day

Show off your patriotic side this Memorial Day with some Americana-themed items. All it takes is a little red, white, blue and maybe even a dusting of stars to pull off a patriotic look, if you’re hosting a barbecue or just trying to set a festive mood.

Americana_Style

1. Cremieux Double-Breasted Striped Blazer: Style this festive blue-striped jacket with a red skirt and navy top for a sophisticated take on the Americana theme.

2. Polo Ralph Lauren Classic-Fit Short-Sleeved Polo Shirt: This versatile polo shirt is one to wear with pride. Pair it with jeans, khakis or blue shorts for an All-American look.

3. Bonnie Jean Mixed-Print Party Pants: For the little girl in your life, these adorable party pants keep the party rolling. A red striped bodice and a dusting of white stars on blue ground offers some playful allegiance to the flag.

4. Cremieux Stanford Quilt Collection: A patchwork quilt of red, white and blue embodies Americana: rugged, nostalgic, homespun and festive. Create a focal point for the bedroom while celebrating the holiday year-round with this bedding.

5. Tag Mystic Star-Shaped Table Runner: Wake up your table with this celebratory table runner.  As clever as old-fashioned American ingenuity, this table runner, held together by buttons, separates into individual place mats for dining.

6. Formation Star Tumbler with Lid: Imagine sipping your favorite beverage outdoors with the hearty aroma of burgers and hot dogs roasting on the grill. This nostalgic tumbler keeps hot drinks hot, cold drinks cold and works as a great companion piece for your Memorial Day celebration.

What to Wear: Kentucky Derby Watch Party

KentuckyDerbyBanner

And they’re off! Those three little words ignite the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports” — the Kentucky Derby. Along with the thunder of hooves is the race to be fashionable. If you’re invited to a watch party this weekend, there’s probably mention of a dress code. Think fun and festive without feeling the need to look terribly formal. In many cases, what you need is already in your closet. We’ll help you put it all together.

For the gentlemen:

Might we recommend a mixture of formal and casual. Try an oxford shirt, patchwork shorts and a stylish straw fedora for that preppy look.

KentuckyDerbyMens

For the ladies:

Almost as famous as the derby itself is the circus of big, over-the-top women’s hats. If you don’t have a wild hat to cap off your wardrobe, no problem. You can stand out in other ways. Start by donning this stunning statement necklace or slipping into these charming espadrille wedges. The mixed-media top and skinny cropped jeans create a simple but elegant style foundation.

KentuckyDerbyWomens

If you’re hosting a watch party, you’ll likely be serving most beverages from informal cups and glasses. But should a guest ask to sample some of your finest bourbon or other favored libation, enhance his or her tasting experience with this handsome whiskey set or set of highball glasses.
