Dillards.com caught up with renowned interior designer Candice Olson to talk bedding, bath and everything she loves about making interiors shine.
Q. Where do you draw most of your inspiration for products?
A. I’m big into getting all I can from the spring and fall fashion shows. My line of bedding is very fashion-driven. Color combinations or fabrics like lace, feathers or jewel clusters were huge on the runways and then in home stores within a year.
Q. Who are your major influences?
A. I really admire Ralph Lauren, both his designs and his business savvy. I always remind people that this isn’t just a hobby, this is a career, and Ralph Lauren has been able to withstand the test of time.
Q. Did you attend school for interior design or are you self-taught?
A. I spent three years of university finding myself — learning about psychology, biology, kinesiology and chemistry. Interior design was the perfect balance that bridged the technical, scientific world with the artistic, creative one. I packed my bags and earned my degree from the School of Interior Design at Ryerson University in Toronto and never looked back!
Q. What do you feel you bring to the industry?
A. I’m a realist at heart and my designs reflect that. People don’t live in magazine-photo homes. They live in houses that have kids and pets.
Q. What’s the ultimate message you want to get across through your product?
A. You can have a home that is beautiful and practical — it just starts with being really honest with yourself about your lifestyle. Ask yourself exactly what it is that you like about a room — is it the color, lighting, patterns, the furniture, the openness? All of these factors can be manipulated to some degree to suit your own personal tastes and lifestyle.

I am amazed by this woman everytime I hear her speak or see her designs. She has so many layers that are unfolded everytime I see her. How could someone so pretty have such personality, wit, charm and genius. A phenomenal woman.
I love Candace Olsen, she is one of the best designers that I have seen and watched on T.V. I wish that I could meet her one day. She really knows what she is doing. When Candace designs a room for you, you better believe it is the best and people will talk about it for years to come. She is just that good.
I wish I could meet Candice, as well. I love her design style. Thanks for reading!
Candace is the baddest designer around!!! There is no one that can touch her in the industry. I would love to have her decorate my home. Until then, I just copy her style.
What a great instructional, thanks!
I too admire her creativity. Everything she puts in a room looks awesome whether it coordinates or contrasts in design or color. Would love to have her do my rooms or at least give me ideas!!

i bought some of your bedding and love it, but when i had it dry cleaned, the insides in places stuck together and clumped, any help on why and what can i do?
Candice I love your colors and design, but they are too expensive for some people. Why can’t you make beddings that are more affordable? Even if I bought it, there’s a comment on some mishaps on a bedspread and they probaly cost a lo!
I just love Candice and her creativity….I watch her as much as I can…She’s one of the best designers of today…
Hello Candice. I really like your designs. are beautiful.
when I grow up I’ll be like you.
I would like you to come to Mexico.
Goodbye.
I, too, am a Candace Olson fan! I would love to see a lot more designs in duvet covers from hers. There are not enough quality duvet covers out there; duvet covers that are relatively wrinkle free…
